An awareness programme on Cooperative Financial Institutions was organized by the Commerce and Management Association of Upendra Pai Memorial College, Kunjibettu, Udupi on March 26.
Mr. Rajesh Hegde, General Manager of Udupi Industrial Co-operative Society Ltd. was the resource person for the programme. Addressing the students, he explained the origin and functioning of primary cooperative banks and elaborated on various deposit schemes and loan facilities offered by them. He highlighted the important role played by cooperative banks in strengthening the rural and local economy by providing financial support to farmers, small traders, and self-employed individuals. He also spoke about the employment opportunities available in the cooperative banking sector and encouraged students to explore career prospects in this field. He further noted that cooperative banks, due to their close connection with the community, are able to reach even the most marginalized sections of society and promote financial inclusion.
The programme was presided over by Prof. Prabha Kamath, Principal of the college.
Mr. Chandrashekar, Lecturer in Economics, coordinated the programme. He welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory remarks. Ms. Nisarga S. V., a first-year B.Com student, introduced the guest. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Fathima Minaz, and the programme was compered by Mr. Sreeshanth T. S.
