Choosing the Right Skill Diploma – Ms. Rajalakshmi and Team, MSDC

.Ms. Rajalakshmi and the MSDC team conducted an informative and engaging session on “How to Select the Appropriate Skill Diploma for Your Degree”, introducing students to the range of skill diploma options available at the college in collaboration with Manipal Skill Development Centre (MSDC), Manipal. The session provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the various skill-based programmes and highlighted how these courses can complement their BBA, B.Com and BCA academic programmes while enhancing their knowledge, competencies and employability. The session also emphasised the importance of acquiring industry-relevant skills alongside a degree in today’s competitive professional environment. Students were encouraged to make informed choices by considering their individual interests, strengths and career aspirations, thereby enabling them to select skill diploma courses that align with their academic journey and future professional goals.

Nurturing Your Talent: A Way Forward – Mr. Ganesh Brahmavar

Mr. Ganesh Brahmavar, alumnus of UPMC and an accomplished Yakshagana and Bharatanatyam artist, conducted an engaging interactive session on “Nurturing Your Talent: A Way Forward.” Drawing from his experience in the performing arts, he emphasised the importance of recognising one’s inherent talents and nurturing them through consistent practice, perseverance and purposeful engagement. He encouraged students to actively participate in cultural, co-curricular and other extracurricular activities as a means of exploring their interests, identifying their strengths and discovering their potential. He highlighted that talent flourishes when supported by the right opportunities, discipline and sustained effort. He also emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between academics and extracurricular pursuits, noting that active involvement in cultural activities contributes significantly to the development of confidence, creativity, communication skills and overall personality. The session inspired students to look beyond academics, embrace their individual talents and pursue opportunities that contribute to their holistic growth and personal development.

Planning for bright profession through CA/CS/ CMA – CS Santhosh Prabhu V Reach Academy Udupi

CS Santhosh Prabhu of V Reach Academy, Udupi, conducted an informative and career-oriented session titled “Planning for a Bright Profession through CA/CS/CMA” for the B.Com and BBA students. The session provided students with valuable insights into the scope, structure and career prospects associated with the professional qualifications of CA, CS and CMA. He explained the nature and significance of these professional courses, the diverse career opportunities they offer across industries, and the growing demand for qualified professionals in the fields of finance, accounting, taxation, corporate governance and management. Emphasising the importance of early preparation, he encouraged students to identify their areas of interest and develop a clear and structured career plan while pursuing their undergraduate studies. He also highlighted the need for consistent academic effort, disciplined study habits, effective time management and continuous skill development to successfully pursue professional qualifications. The session enabled students to gain a broader perspective on career pathways beyond graduation and motivated them to make informed decisions and begin preparing strategically for their future professional aspirations.

Future Prospects of BCA – Prof. Sahana, UPMC

Prof. Sahana conducted a session on the future prospects of BCA and the opportunities available to students in the field of information technology. She explained the importance of developing technical skills along with the knowledge gained through the BCA programme. Students were encouraged to learn new technologies and make use of internships, certifications and other learning opportunities. The session helped students understand the different career and higher education options available after BCA.

Cyber Security- Awareness and preventive measures – Dr Raviraj Nayak ( Former Faculty NITK)

Dr. Raviraj Nayak conducted a session on “Cyber Security- “Awareness and preventive measures” focusing on the growing role of digital platforms in shaping the academic, social and personal lives of today’s youth. He highlighted how social media, when used constructively, can serve as a valuable platform for learning, communication, networking, creativity, knowledge sharing and access to diverse perspectives. At the same time, he sensitised students to the potential challenges associated with excessive or inappropriate use, including distraction from academics, reduced concentration and productivity, disruption of healthy routines, changes in behaviour, social comparison, emotional stress and its impact on interpersonal relationships. Dr. Nayak emphasised the importance of developing digital awareness and exercising self-discipline while engaging with online platforms. He encouraged students to be conscious of the time they devote to social media, distinguish between meaningful and unproductive digital engagement, protect their privacy and maintain responsible online behaviour.

Setting the Right Career Goal with the Right Preparation – Dr. Nandan Prabhu, TAPMI, Manipal

Dr. Nandan Prabhu conducted a motivating session on “Setting the Right Career Goal with the Right Preparation,” focusing on the importance of making informed and purposeful career choices. He emphasised that effective career planning begins with a clear understanding of one’s interests, strengths, abilities, values and aspirations. Students were encouraged to identify their career goals at an early stage and develop a structured approach towards achieving them through effective planning, continuous learning, skill enhancement and consistent effort. He highlighted the importance of staying informed about emerging career opportunities and developing both domain-specific and transferable skills to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving professional landscape. The session encouraged students to view their college years not merely as a period of academic learning, but as a crucial phase for exploring opportunities, building competencies, gaining practical exposure and preparing themselves for successful careers.

Ethical Values in Education – Prof Nanditha Sunil, Professor, MSNIM, Bondel, Mangalore

Prof . Nanditha MSNIM Mangalore, an alumnus of UPMC conducted an interactive and participative session on “Ethical Values in Education,” highlighting the vital role of integrity and character in shaping responsible individuals and successful professionals. She emphasised that education extends beyond academic achievement and must foster strong moral and ethical foundations that guide students in their personal, academic and professional lives. Through her interaction with the students, she highlighted the significance of honesty, responsibility, respect, discipline, accountability and integrity as essential values for building trust, maintaining healthy relationships and achieving sustainable success. Students were encouraged to demonstrate these values in their academic practices, decision-making, communication and day-to-day interactions, while recognising the importance of respecting diverse perspectives and taking responsibility for their actions. The session reinforced the message that true education is measured not only by knowledge and qualifications, but also by the ability to use that knowledge with integrity, empathy and a strong sense of social responsibility

Teenage Counselling by Mrs. Tanuja Maben

Mrs. Tanuja Maben conducted an insightful and interactive counselling session on the “Common Challenges Faced by Teenagers and Young Adults,” addressing the emotional, social and personal concerns that students may encounter during this important phase of their lives. She highlighted the significance of understanding and managing emotions, developing healthy coping mechanisms, handling academic and personal stress, and maintaining positive and supportive relationships with family members, friends and peers. The session also emphasised the importance of effective communication, self-awareness and seeking timely guidance when faced with difficulties or uncertainty. Students were encouraged to express their concerns openly, approach trusted individuals for support and develop a positive outlook while navigating the various changes, expectations and responsibilities associated with college life.

Yoga for a Healthy Body and Mind – Dr. Lavya Shetty, MAHE

Dr. Lavya Shetty from MAHE conducted informative session on “Yoga and Its Role in Maintaining Physical and Mental Well-being,” highlighting the importance of incorporating healthy practices into students’ daily lives. She explained how regular practice of yoga can contribute to physical fitness, flexibility, improved concentration, emotional balance and effective stress management. Emphasising the need to maintain a healthy balance between academic commitments and personal well-being, Dr. Shetty introduced students to simple and practical yoga practices that can be easily incorporated into their everyday routines. She demonstrated selected yoga postures and guided the students through the practices, enabling them to experience their benefits firsthand. The interactive session helped students understand the value of mindfulness, physical activity and self-care in maintaining overall health and enhancing academic performance. She encouraged the students to develop sustainable healthy habits and recognise that physical and mental well-being are essential foundations for personal growth, academic success and a fulfilling life.

Communicative English – Mr Gideon Ammana

A comprehensive and engaging session on “Communicative English and Phonetics” was conducted f by Mr. Gideon Ammana, Retired Teacher, Trainer and Educator. The session focused on the significance of effective English communication as an essential skill for academic achievement, professional success and meaningful interpersonal interactions. Mr. Ammana highlighted the importance of clarity, accuracy, confidence and appropriate expression in spoken communication, while drawing attention to the role of correct pronunciation in conveying ideas effectively. Students were introduced to the fundamentals of phonetics and guided to understand how the accurate articulation of sounds can improve their pronunciation, fluency and overall communication skills. The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to participate actively and develop greater awareness of their spoken English. The session provided valuable practical insights and motivated students to practise effective communication consistently, thereby enhancing their confidence and preparing them to communicate effectively in diverse academic and professional settings.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session and student feedback, providing the new students with valuable insights and a positive start to their college journey.

Week long induction program was coordinated by Prof Asha Kumari Director of Compliances. Mr. Javed Ummar Ali and Mrs Sahana, took active lead in executing all Sessions.
